Tube and Pipe Inspection Systems
Inline Pipe Inspection System

Inline Pipe
Inspection System

Dapco's RTS-300 ultrasonic pipe inspection systems represent our fifth generation of instrumentation.  Systems can be positioned in or off line at the pipe finishing area, depending on the customer's testing requirements.  Each pipe is automatically tested, classified, and properly marked based on the test results to any of the API, DIN, or other standards.  Testing is accomplished at probe surface speeds of up to 600 ft/min and the basic pipe inspection system can be easily adapted for most types of pipe inspection.

The operator monitors and controls the testing via a keyboard or touch sensitive color screen. Each pipe is mapped on the screen in real time, as it moves through the tester, indicating both thickness and flaw exceptions. Further discrimination is made between internal and external defects. At the end of the test a hard copy printout is generated for each pipe tested and at the same time the results can be transmitted to a pipe tracking central control computer. Test results can also be saved on the system hard disk for archival.

Tube and Pipe
Inspection Systems Features

  • Patented 2-dimensional decision making process to minimize false alarms
  • Patented multiple array, multiple direction transducer wheel probes
  • Patented dual-sensitivity capability for simultaneous multi-level defect classifications
  • True to location color coded painting of indications on the pipe
  • Color graphics display unit with optional touch sensitive screen through which the operator can control the test process
  • Automatic gain control and distance amplitude correction
  • Remote pulser/receivers allow the electronics to be centrally located in a control room up to 150 feet from the sensors
  • Continuous couplant check
  • Distance-based firing at intervals from 0.019 inches (0.5mm) gives a constant pulse density in the product regardless of speed
  • Rapid conversions to different pipe sizes both in English and Metric units of measure
  • Patented pipe size job definition storage capability for immediate parameter setups in both English and Metric units of measure
  • Flexible evaluation methods by paint marking, product sorting, real time on-screen graphical display of test results and printed recordings of the test data
  • Variable number of multi-directional wheel probes for maximum throughput
  • No special water quality requirements with only small volumes needed
  • A direct network connection to a plant's central computer system is available
  • A standard Pentium personal computer is used for the operator control interface
  • System is fully software driven, allowing for customization to each customer's unique requirements
  • Statistics are maintained for the number of pipes tested, accepted, rejected and defects found by orientation
  • Built-in system self testing is provided in both an automatic and on-demand fashion for system hardware verification
  • An optional analog strip-chart recorder output is available
  • Built-in support for multiple languages including English (default) and Spanish, Italian, German with customer translations

    Applications

    DSAW Large Diameter Pipe Inspection
Provides 100% full body inspection for thickness, laminations, and flaw detection, thus eliminating the need to inspect the raw steel plates prior to being used in the production of line pipe. The system's control computer recognizes and masks out the welded region and concentrates the inspection on the main body of the pipe.

    ERW Pipe Weld Inspection
Designed to operate both in-line in the post welding area or as an off-line inspection system.  Available with a closed-loop eddy current weld tracking device.

    Oil Country Tubular Goods
Designed to handle threaded, upset, and plain end drilling and casing pipes.

    More Info

    Plain End Casing
Designed for high speed testing of casing pipes with 5 directions of inspection.

    More Info

    Wall Thickness Monitoring
Designed to operate in-line as a production control tool. As the tube moves linearly through the test station, the system automatically calculates eccentricity and absolute thickness. Calculates minimum, maximum, and average thickness readings along with the standard deviation.
